Postal Service is Important

with one comment

Here is interesting article about postal service in the US wrote by Philip F. Rubio. It is very interesting for several reason. first, Rubio’s article highlighted the why Postal Service is important. Second, Rubio’s article is an counter discourse to the rising discourse of the declining Postal Service role in the skype and instant messaging world. Third, if the Postal Service win on the war of position, it will be a historical moment before everything wiped by the internet.

The post office has historically helped all kinds of people find jobs, including immigrants, rural migrants and those pursuing higher education. For African-Americans, the post office has been a job magnet and a vehicle for social activism and community development. Since changes in the law allowed them to enter the ranks in 1865, African-Americans fought segregation and discrimination in the Postal Service and its unions, and they played a key role in modernizing the agency. Historically, the post office has been the largest employer of African-Americans, and from 1970 to 2000, blacks were at least twice as likely to work for the post office as whites.

Pakistan Arrests CIA informants

leave a comment »

I this is a new development on Pakistan and US bilateral relation. Pakistan’s detention of five C.I.A informants just a new fact that indicate a bad relation of both countries. New York Times said that:

Pakistan’s detention of five C.I.A. informants, including a Pakistani Army major who officials said copied the license plates of cars visiting Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in the weeks before the raid, is the latest evidence of the fractured relationship between the United States and Pakistan. It comes at a time when the Obama administration is seeking Pakistan’s support in brokering an endgame in the war in neighboring Afghanistan.

Weiner on High Pressure

with 2 comments

It is so high pressure for Weiner. His fellow democrats advise him to resign. The most important is Obama’s comment for Weiner.

Barack Obama has piled further pressure on disgraced Democratic congressman Anthony Weiner, who has to date resisted calls to step down from Congress, by describing Weiner’s behaviour as "highly inappropriate" and saying: "I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign.

But this is American politics that is quite different from Japanese politics. Therefore, I belive that Weiner will not leave his job immediately.

Weiner and His Sexting Scandal

with one comment

Weiner’s scandal has developed so fast. Maybe a week ago, many newspaper and blog still call Weiner’s scandal as “weiner scandal”. Then Washington Post develop the story. They call Weiner’s scandal as Weiner’s e-ffair. We can underline that Washington Post bring the new lexicon, e-ffair, come into sight. Then the e-ffair bring me to Sexting word. Thanks to wikipedia and urban dictionary that have recorded the word. The story is still developing. Now, ABC officially use sexting to describe Weiner’s e-ffair.

Under fierce pressure from fellow Democrats to resign in a sexting scandal, Rep. Anthony Weiner announced Saturday he was entering professional treatment at an undisclosed location and requested a leave of absence from Congress.

Why Wallow Fire?

with 2 comments

Wallow Fire is currently the hot news, as hot as its fire. But the question, how Wallow Fire gets its name? I have made some online research. Apparently, I couldn’t find the history how wallow fire get its name. And who gave the Arizona’s wildfire Wallow Fire as its name ? But according to some online dictionary, Wallow actually means nostalgia.

intr.v., -lowed, -low·ing, -lows.

  1. To roll the body about indolently or clumsily in or as if in water, snow, or mud.
  2. To luxuriate; revel: wallow in self-righteousness.
  3. To be plentifully supplied: wallowing in money.
  4. To move with difficulty in a clumsy or rolling manner; flounder: "The car wallowed back through the slush, with ribbons of bright water trickling down the windshield from the roof" (Anne Tyler).
  5. To swell or surge forth; billow.

n.

  1. The act or an instance of wallowing.
    1. A pool of water or mud where animals go to wallow.
    2. The depression, pool, or pit produced by wallowing animals.
  2. A condition of degradation or baseness.

But I believe that this is not the root for Wallow Fire’s name.

Wallow Fire Won’t Stop Immediately

leave a comment »

Since days ago, there is no obvious indicator that shows Wallow Fire to stop. Few days ago I posted that the Wallow Fire was growing bigger. Days to escape from the news, today I look back to the fire. It is still grows bigger. Now, Wallow Fire burned 300.000 acres.

The Wallow Fire has now scorched over 300,000 acres in eastern Arizona, making it the second largest wildfire in the state’s history. In less than 24 hours, Wallow engulfed some 78,000 acres of land. Fire officials said the unrelenting wildfire’s total destruction is 311,481 acres. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire is 0 percent contained.

There is possibilities that Wallow Fire won’t stop immediately. Wallow Fire maybe the first largest wild fire in the region.

Weiner’s E-ffair

with one comment

I Weiner has revolutionize affair world. There are two legacy or Weiner. First, Weiner made e-ffair come into sight, at least for me that never heard it before. It is apparently my fault because i never read the urban dictionary. Second, Weiner bring e-ffair to the next level of affair. He bring e-ffair come into sight as political term. We could see this when Washington Post released an article about Weiner’s political e-ffair. And the most important thing, Washington post call Weiner’s e-ffair as a modern e-ffair;

Here is what we are dealing with: We are dealing with the gray space where fidelity meets Facebook and with the boundary between our “real” lives and our online lives, which is constantly being pushed, and never where you expect it.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault and attempted rape today, and nothing has been proven against him yet. Osama is US’ “Big Chunk”

leave a comment »

Today I read blog post on politicalpunch about Obama’s announcement for US troops withdrawal.

President Obama said today that the U.S. has accomplished a “big chunk” of its mission in Afghanistan and that he will be making an announcement about the size of the troop withdrawal from the war-torn country “soon.”

According to the announcement, the key of the withdrawal is the “big chunk”. It is funny that Obama call Osama as US “big chunk”

Wallow Fire is Growing Bigger

with 2 comments

Another disaster hit United States. Currently 140,000 acres burned by Wildfire that now has its name, Wallow fire. Some journalist said that this is the third biggest fire in Arizona’s history. According to some analysis, the fire will easily grow bigger because there is no natural barriers for the fire.

The Wallow Fire made a "substantial growth" overnight and has now consumed 140,000 acres in eastern Arizona since Sunday, officials said. With no natural barriers to stop the blaze, the now third-largest wildfire in Arizona history has the potential to grow even larger, depending on weather conditions, officials said.
