Hunting Party

The movie released in 2007. The storyline is actually criticize United Nation, The Hague, and many international organization because they failed to take actual action to punish the war criminals. The storyline is little bit cheap. A typical of Hollywood movie with a love story inside the drama and happy ending. But the critics is the best selling point. The movie exactly shoot on the heart of those international organization that have the responsibility to punish the war criminals. After years, Ratko Mladic, one of the war criminal, arrested. It is just like how the film ended.

A young journalist, a seasoned cameraman and a discredited war correspondent embark on an unauthorized mission to find the no. 1 war criminal in Bosnia; they find themselves in serious jeopardy when they are mistaken as a CIA hit squad and their target decides to come after them.

Fight Club

This is antoher phsyco movie. The dialogue is sharp and smart. The movie remind me of Pulp Fiction. There are a lot of popular culture symbol on the movie. Meanwhile, the storyline is very engaged. You have to watch the movie.

A ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Their concept catches on, with underground "fight clubs" forming in every town, until an eccentric gets in the way and ignites an out-of-control spiral toward oblivion.

Bal (Honey)

This is a good movie about father and son relation. The storyline is not like a mainstream movie produced by Hollywood that always show us capitalistic story. In this movie, such cheap characteristic is confiscated.

The young boy Yusuf’s best friend is his father, who supports his family’s modest life with the honey he collects from tall trees in the forests of the remote Turkish countryside. Yusuf is a quiet boy, and his mother is concerned for his future. Perhaps he will follow in his father’s footsteps, or perhaps school will offer him other opportunities. But the honey crop is failing, and Yusuf has trouble learning how to read. The greatest fear strikes when Yusuf’s father doesn’t return home from the forest.

I don’t know how to describe this movie. Great, maybe then only appropriate word to describe the movie. The movie tell us that we’ll face irreversible moment that will change our life forever. Oprah may called it “aha moment”. Even, if you have a plan for your life, God will only laugh on it. The drama is meaningful. At least force the audiences to think and contemplate about their own life. Meanwhile, the chain events are smoothly connected. It just make the movie has a strong engagement.

Captain Abu Raed

I always fascinated by non-mainstream movie. I mean, by movies that are not produced by Hollywood movie makers. I always find a new perspective and inspiration from such a non-mainstream movies. Just try to watch French or Middle East movies, they have a different selling point, different perspectives and of course different inspiration. And Captain Abu Raed just confirmed my assumption. I find a different perspective and inspiration on this film. The star also confirmed my position.

A sweet-tempered tale about the power of fantasy and storytelling becomes a starker parable about human connection and personal sacrifice.

Social Network

It is maybe too late to watch Social Network. It is maybe a grade c film that not supposed to be watched. But I have several reason why I am too late to check the film. I think I have to appreciate every kind of intellectual creation including this grade c film.

The result, after I watched the film, my assumption is confirmed. Social Network is actually a grade c film. I mean, it is not worth it to watch. I think you would better to watch another film that is more meaningful something like Something Borrowed or Rabit Hole.

But Social Network are not totally empty. After you watch it, you’ll know little bit of Facebook history. That is the biggest selling point of the film. So, not bad at all. At least, You get something from the film.

I think this is a little bit good movie. The story just little bit same with Scorsese’s Shutter Island, a psychological horror movie. But, Scorsese’s still better. The collaboration between Scorsese and Di Caprio seems unbeatable. The most important thing, Amber Heard is so sexy on this film.

In the wake of Martin Scorsese’s recent movie about almost exactly the same thing, it’s tempting to rename this one Sh*tter Island.

Rabit Hole

According to Wikipedia, Rabit Hole is a metaphor for adventure into the unknown.

"down the rabbit hole", a metaphor for adventure into the unknown, from its use in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

But its different on John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabit Hole. His film is really a good and worth to watch. I think this is because not only MItchells tallent, but also Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart’s hard work to play their best act in this film.

Sang Pencerah

leave a comment »

it is too late to write an inspiring a film Review for a film that screened its premier few months ago. so, this post is not addressed to be an inspiring review, just to post a different perspective about the movie.

this is a kind of 2.0 marketing when everybody said on various social media that Sang Pencerah is awesome and inspiring. many public figure shared their praise regarding the movie that also had a side effect to encourage the crowd to watch the movie. regarding such 2.0 marketing strategy, the film was succeeded.

on the storyline, this is the major weakness of a biopic movie. the actor and director are always try to painstakingly illustrate the figure. in other hand, biopic movie always try to depict a whole complex life of a person in a short duration movie. the implication is that the film occasionally miss the detail that could be more inspiring.

i deeply concerned with the scene of how Ahmad Dahlan try to reform the Qibla direction that was adopted by general Moslem in Yogyakarta. that was awesome how the young Ahmad Dahlan tried to make a dialogue with the elder priests in Kauman. more exploration of this scene, the movie may be more inspiring.

Despicable Me

leave a comment »

some say, this is memorable year for animation movie. there are three high quality animation on the screen this year. they are Toy Story 3, How To Train Dragon, and Despicable me. but which is the best ?technically, Despicable me is not the best of Pixar, but it is still the funniest of the year. the most important things is that the character were memorable and brilliantly animated. unfortunately, despicable is typically Hollywood. it is easily guessed that the hero always win with the happy ending story.
